The poets each attended a two hour creative writing workshop led by Julia Webb. It explored a range of approaches to writing short form poetry for animation, such as Anti-Words (an exercise in avoiding cliché), making Calligrams and creating Dada poetry.
The following day, the poets took their work to a full day animation workshop led by Martin Sercombe and Britta Pollmuller. They then storyboarded their poems, created 2D sets and cut out models, and created their poems using cameras and stop frame animation software.
Please download the two pdf files in the Worksheets section for detailed guides to running these two workshops. The video clips are examples of finished work by the Stalham High School students, alongside an interview with Julia Webb. There are further examples of animated poetry from around the world in the Resources section.
